It’s Day 18 today, and I’m extremely excited to be talking about the 1979 Sci-fi/Horror classic Alien with you guys. Alien is directed by Ridley Scott, and stars a young Sigourney Weaver as the Supreme Badass of the Final Frontier: Ellen Ripley. I have no idea how this is possible, but up until now, I’d managed to go my entire life without ever having seen this movie. It’s not that I purposely avoided it, but I’m not a huge extraterrestrial/space movie person–I suppose I just never got around to it. Suffice it to say that I’m glad I finally did. Welcome back! We’re up to Day 10, and today we’re talking about the 1953 Sci-Fi classic It Came From Outer Space, starring Barbara Rush and Richard Carlson. I’m sorry to say it, but I really didn’t enjoy this movie very much. It is a combination of all the worst aspects of ’50s movies: it’s supremely cheesy, xenophobic, flimsy in plot, and just plain boring. It isn’t horrible, or even BAD, necessarily…but it definitely does not stand the test of time. I fell asleep at least twice while watching, and then had to rewind to be sure I hadn’t missed anything.
